[Relief loosens the knot of his heart when Jesper's reply appears in his field of vision. Wilhelm had slipped into the occasional habit of messaging him when he was bored — just little nothings, observations, and complaints. Then last month trampled his mood back into the ground, and again he withdrew from everybody else. Even though it wasn't what he actually wanted.

It doesn't occur to him that Jesper, always smiling, with so much confidence for armor, could have undergone a similar shift in mood.]

I couldn't do a lot last time, because I was broke. Now I'm not AS broke.

[Alone, he hides a shy smile in his hand. Yes, he knows. He doesn't know how to react to being called sexy, though. It has nothing to do with Jesper and everything to do with a compromising video of himself that got splashed all over social media. Sexy stops feeling like a compliment when it's banged out in all capital letters and a flurry of exclamation points by thousands of strangers.
