Well you can 1. Ask them if they like men. 2. Hint around if they have any exes that would give away gender. 3. Flirt a whole lot and see if they're into it. 4. Mention that you like men and see how they react.
I seem to remember I couldn't figure out if you liked men or not so I had to be direct at a point. And I'm usually amazing at sniffing it out.
