It's a good thing Jesper looks away because Wylan winces at his words. He feels himself pulling back into himself like he hasn't in months, not since they started the ice court job.
"I really need you to stop saying that." He tries to keep his voice steady and he's pretty sure he does a good job at it.
There is a pause and then he nods, moving back on the bed a little to give Wylan space. "I understand. Let's just ... talk about this place and what you need to know." Jesper doesn't need an exact answer from Wylan now and it's stupid to even imply as much. He's stated his feelings and where he's at, that has to be enough.
Except who knows if it'll ever be enough. If he can ever be enough. He thought he was for Mat and look how that went.
"Um, if you want to go into the Horizon, I can take you."
Wylan shakes his head. If he gets any more information he thinks his brain might explode, or he might burst into tears and he does not want to cry in front of Jesper again. One time was bad enough.
"No-I think. I think I need to go...take a walk or something?" He stands up and then pauses. Jes per hasn't actually asked him to stay here with them. "I don't- uh. I don't want to go back to that military base though."
Jesper's been so on edge lately that even one more touch at his abandonment issues makes him want to throw up. He swallows it down and looks at the floor. "I get it, I'm around." For when he needs someone, always.
"Oh, uh. Just ask Mags, the woman downstairs. She'll get you set up in a room here. All the Summoned get to live here." He would suggest he stay with Kaz but that could be weird right now too. As long as he's in the inn, he's safe.
Wylan nods, not sure why that feels even worse. He doesn't need someone to help him set up accommodation, he did it on his own before he can again. He's the one that needed some space.
"Oh, okay. I'll...I'll be back later then. We can. We can talk more?" He needs to leave before he makes this worse. He glances at Jesper and feels his own heart break as he makes for the door, pulling it open and stepping outside. he closes it behind him before letting himself lean against it softly. Letting his eyes well with tears for a moment before he swallows them down, he won't be that person anymore. He pushes off the door and goes to do what he said. A walk to clear his head.
Wylan's reappearance has made everything more complicated, and that is saying a great deal. He thought it was bad enough for him to get a year of a happy life placed into his head, although at the time it just made him glad to know that things worked out for them back there. Because he still thought it would mean it is not his life anymore. Then Wylan's here and it's all wrong. Just his luck.
He watches Wylan go, wanting so much to reach out and beg him to stay or ask for his patience. He's had a shitty month and it was nice to sit with him again, to touch him. Instead Jesper just sits there dejected and once Wylan's gone he lies on his back on the bed and puts his hands over his face. Just another fantastic day.
We need information. Even not on the building itself but on how they're treated, what happens to them, and we should look into demanding proof they're even there.
How do we know they didn't sacrifice one to release the rest?
We'll definitely put her on things, and likely she'll come back with answers.
What if I tried asking? As someone that was hurt by them, tortured, and just needs the peace of mind to know that they aren't pampered during their incarcerations.
I mean... already crippled, tortured in my own life by horrific things, and now nervous of what could happen if they somehow found their way free?
Jesper gets tipsy from the execution which is why he suggested later that night, so he can sober up. It would only make focusing on the Horizon and what they plan on doing there more difficult. Jesper's cabin is exactly as he described. Pretty and simple, it is a bright sunny day outside always. It is a stark contrast to the Crow Club which is permanently in the shadow, but he made this for that reason. The execution was troubling, but Jesper really did shake it off after an hour or two. The bitch is dead. No reason to waste any more time on her.
He would like to waste the rest of his time with Kell instead. They could probably both use an outlet right then. Jesper doesn't wait inside though, he can be found at the shooting range right next to the cabin. There is a table there that is filled with different types of guns that anyone can pick up and use for target practice. Jesper still favors his mother's revolvers most of the time, but sometimes he needs something else.
He is not currently using any of them though. Instead he is practicing with his telekinesis. Jesper tosses a handful of bullets in the air and catches them telekinetically, holding them and spinning them around him. It's been time like this spent in the Horizon that really helped him become an expert in his abilities. He throws his hand out and they shoot with lethal aim at the targets without needing a gun, the projectiles dangerous all on their own. The bandits in the Badlands can attest to that.
Jesper doesn't have his coat on in here, he is dressed very simply since soon enough Kell will be here and he'll have no clothes necessary. He puts out his hand and all of the bullets are called back from the targets to hover in his palm again before settling down. He glances up, sensing someone entering his space and hoping it'll be a sexy redhead to take his troubles away.
There are very rare occasions that Kell does actually dress up for. Actually puts effort and conscious thought into what he's about to wear. The Horizon gives them all opportunity to go wild without the constraints of their material possessions. Outside, Kell doesn't have an extensive wardrobe. All he has is mainly practical. Some items bought for specific events, and then maybe worn once, before he reverted to his standard muted colors with only concession to brighter colors being his white shirts.
Nothing looks remotely close to what he is wearing right now. Charcoal waistcoat with opulent, silver embroidery running down its front and sleeves, matching shirt and pants, a thin cane with silver rose on top in his hand, and a short, many-stranded whip hangs from his belt. There's a theme to this outfit. Clearly much thought went into assembling it to look like it does. An obvious over-preparation on Kell's part since he'll be ditching all of this soon.
Kell walks up to the shooting range looking completely out of place among all the greenery in his formal attire. But he must have found a right mood in this odd persona, because he's not skulking, in his usual all hunched eyes on the ground way. He walks with confidence, with straight back and gaze lazily glazing over his surroundings.
"Hi," he says approaching Jesper, and it's the only crack in his otherwise perfect image.
His attire might be excellent, but he really needs to work on his eloquence.
Kell does look out of place but so does Kaz every time he's visiting here. It's like Jesper to get attracted to people so different from him, so when he sees him coming up looking like a fancy snack, he has to grin. Jesper has no shame or hesitation, as Kell knows, so he crosses over to him and digs his hands into the front of Kell's shirt. No respect for the fanciness, but they're in the Horizon. Jesper tugs him directly into a toes curling kiss, leaving nothing to question.
After they have to breathe, he nuzzles Kell's nose before already undoing the waistcoat with nimble fingers. Right in the open. He'd let Kell fuck him right here where anyone could walk by in the Horizon. In fact, Jesper sits up on the table where the guns are to the side, pulling Kell toward him. His legs spread so it's easy to fit Kell right between them, lacking in any subtly. Nothing wrong with a little sexy foreplay.
"Did you dress up for me, sweetheart? What a delightful present to unwrap." As usual Kell doesn't have to worry about whether or not he's eloquent. He's hooking up with someone who finds talking remarkably easy, especially dirty talk. Everything that falls from Jesper's lips sounds like pure honey, his confidence unwavering.
"I could tell today was hard for you." The execution disturbed him, although not so much that he didn't get sucked into Jesper's irreverent flirtation. Jesper looks appropriately apologetic about it now, just to please him. "Let me make it all better."
Not to mention how easily they captured us. As if their people can't get them out of anywhere with that in mind. Maybe not today, maybe a year from now, but I doubt any of them will stay in prison for their time.
